Love them. Plain and simple. You have to let them know that their grandparents care about them. If that means monthly outings or weekly long distance phone calls/letters do it. It may be harder to do with their parent's separated but making the effort will mean a lot to the kids.

What is so wrong that the kids need mental help? Living with Dad is not always bad. What's worse is being rejected by Mom.
