Perhaps you could help your husband make a list that he could give to his mother. He can act like this is a list of stuff he came up with that he knows you want; that way if anything is too expensive, your mother-in-law won't think you asked for it. Makes the list a variety of prices so she can get what she wants.
I wouldn't feel real comfortable just giving a list either. It sounds as if your MIL wants to get you something you would like.

I don't think it is proper to give a list of things you want to anyone, but that is just the way I am. When people ask me, I always tell them you can't go wrong with a cup of coffee and time.
If that's just not your style and you don't care, ask for an x-box.

Ask her for the gift of time.As time together, moves on ,she will get to know you very well ,that she will never ask you for a list again. You have a kind and considerate mother-in-law.

Well girl, get crackin' lets get started....
It can be as simple as towels for the bathroom, kitchen utensils, china set, champagne glasses, bedspread, vaccum cleaner,
to be serious I don't think you should ask for jewelry or anything electronic......that's your husbands area.
Use your in-law to re-deco your house, or get new things you could use around the house.
Or simple ask her if she thinks any of your house needs improvement.

simple low cost stuff (15-25$)...... a few mid priced stuff( 25-35$)and maybe ONE high dollar thing ( 35-60 $).....that gives her a choice of stuff and prices..... no more than 8 items all together..... dont want her thinking you are greedy...... God bless

Ask her honestly for a price range which would make it fairer on both of you.
