when i play a movie, they are so quite, everything else is loud, very oud. but movies are at like 30% volume. i tried different players, all the same? is it a driver or somtheing?

I have desktop supported with pentuim 3.06 GHZ , 512 RAM and winXP Pro SP2 .... I feel that my computer is slower than its real ability ... so does any body know a good software ( FOR FREE ) to increase my pc performance !!! I have external speakers attached to my pc which I purchased seperatly. Stupidly when tidying up my pc i deleted the software for them (silly I know!) anyways I can no longer find the installation disk that came with my speakers. Is there any way I can make them work again? Is it possible to download software that will make them work. or is it a case of lost software useless speakers??

I have a 533mhz ram card unused and I wanted to give it to my friend, but he doesn't know whether he has 533 or 667 mhz ram and he asked me how to find out but I realized I don't know how to myself. I tried dxdiag, but it doesn't say, and I couldn't find anything in device manager.

i bought this computer from a school auction with xp on it but it did not come with a install disk i want to re install my copy of windows 2000 instead how can i do this? every time i put in my windows 2000 disk it say a newer version of the OS exists and won't let me do anything? anyone know how i can manually just wipe the drive clean and start over?

I have a hard drive (3.5" IDE) which has plagued me since I installed it. It's always been incredibly slow. Transferring files around it and to/from it take a very long time. I was told I might be able to speed it up by changing the jumper shunt position. So I did it. I changed the shunt to every possible position and started up the PC again. The only one that works is the CS Enabled one. Fair enough, I can't speed it up. But now there's something else. When I reconnect it with CS Enabled, the hard drive is being detected as new and unformatted. I can't use it unless I format it but I have a lot of important files on it that I really don't want to lose. Does anyone know what's wrong. Help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, the hard drive is a Maxtor DiamondMax with 160gb.

Since we moved and re-hooked up our computer I haven't been able to get the speakers to work. I've tried plugging them into all of the outlets on the back with the same symbol and nothing works. The power light is on and I have tried adjusting the volume also, nothing seems to work. What else can I try or are they blown/broken?

I got my boyfriend Need For Speed Carbon for his birthday last week and he's been dissapointed because about 10-15 minutes into gameplay, the game just shuts down on him.

I've had someone tell me that I need a new harddrive because of the way it sounds. It's not loud, it doesn't hum - it just sounds like the fan, and what it's suppose to be doing. But could this be the problem?

I'm running on a 40 gb hardrive with 640 MB Ram and 1.20 Ghz. My hard drive is only half full and the game itself only takes up 512 MB Ram. So what's the deal?

I've also heard speculation about the temperature of the computer. I downloaded a problem called speed fan which measures the temperatures in the computer. The thing is I have no idea what it means, what normal temperatures are and what overheating temperatures mean. Could someone help me?

It amazes me that one's hard drive can fill up and yet there is no way to clean it without formatting the drive.
If a file is there why can't I locate and use it or remove it.
As you may guess I know little about the inner workings of a computor but as a user I would like to be in control of it, this does not appear to be the case at present.
Imagine having a tape recorder that didn't allow you to erase old tracks.

ok... here are the details... i installed a keyboard driver that i thought was from dell. when i rebooted, it came to the logon screen (window 2000), and the keyboard work up till this point (the num lock functions). but when it tell me to hit ctrl-alt-del to put in the password, the keys dont respond, and the numlock no longer work.
i tried booting in safe mode, i tried a usb keybord, and another serial keyboard... nothing. all i know is that it works up till that criticle point of ctrl-alt-del... please help! :(

at the end of those two wire there is nothing just left with nothing..its just wire coming out and nothing at the end of wire ...any idea what this is ,....
