Simply put, you connect your raw Internet lead to the router, then once the router is configured (technicians can do this for you cheaply,) - you can connect to it, normally via a laptop and access the Internet and shared Network anywhere within it's range. Normally 5-100M. Nearer 10m normally.

A wireless router receives signals (radio frequency) from computers that use wireless cards with which to communicate over the router. A router can handle a number of computers. It takes the packets that are sent by the computer and routes them to the next web address that will allow the packets to get to their final destination. Sometimes, it is just on your local network, so that path is short. Sometimes, the packets are passed on to the ISP's router, which then, in turn, routes them to the next node that they have to pass through.

It is a deveice that is a combination of a router and a WIfi ( wireless ) Switch, with sometimes an optional Firewall and NAT options.
This is used to add computers ( laptops ) that have a wifi connection into a network.
I hope this helps !

Hi. It is my understanding that this is something that plugs into your computer to "jack" the internet off of a wireless internet in your area..
