ok... here are the details... i installed a keyboard driver that i thought was from dell. when i rebooted, it came to the logon screen (window 2000), and the keyboard work up till this point (the num lock functions). but when it tell me to hit ctrl-alt-del to put in the password, the keys dont respond, and the numlock no longer work.
i tried booting in safe mode, i tried a usb keybord, and another serial keyboard... nothing. all i know is that it works up till that criticle point of ctrl-alt-del... please help! :(

thankyou all... the second person probably has it right. but just to clearify, the problem happens when i try to get into windows... i cant get in at all cause i can't hit ctrl-alt-del to enter the password... if there is a way besides reformatting, i would love it... but if not... than i will accept my fate

well then according to what u say, it might not be a keyboard problem. since u tried several keyboards. if this is the case the most probable answer is ur new driver has corrupted ur input system. which unfortunately means u hav to format ur c drive and re-install windows 2000, if u r a home user i suggest switching to xp, coz it has 99% of the drivers built in. but if u still want to go for win 2000, then download and install windows 2000 service pack 4 from microsoft (its free) most probably it shud hav a working driver for ur new keyboard. and do not hav a practice of installing manufacturer drivers for essential input device such as a keyboard. let windows automaticcaly choose, but my best advice for u is to switch to Windows XP

I'm having this problem with my windows 8.1 hp after I found a corrupt file I uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard and reset my pc but my keyboard is still not responding.. what did you do?

You could try:
check with manufacturer of keyboard for compapatibility. You may have to install a different driver or update the current driver. Check with Dell.

Start your computer in Safemode.
Uninstall keyboard driver from device manager.
this should solve your problem
