Alright, I am currently on a bare-minimum budget, but that doesn't mean I can't save up. I have a part-time job in HS, thus, it is very easy to make money in this point of my life, as I don't have to pay off bills. : P So while I don't have money now, that can change in a few months. Thus, don't hold back when recommending me what to buy.

I need a list of elements of a computer, from the most critical to the least, and preferably, the best of each kind. Keep in mind that if there is something new coming out within' the next six months, put that instead, because that's when I would most likely buy my parts and have enough money to do so.

The motherboard is...well....not able to be upgraded once you buy it, so I don't want to cut ANY corners on this. Tell me the best motherboard I can get now, or in the future.

I have 1 Gigabyte of RAM and 512 MB of RAM which I will use in my new comp. It should be enough to last until I get a 2 GB in. That should be an insane amount of RAM.

Thank you if you can help me here. I am looking if there are software which scan the PC hardware and return all the information in details to me, including the hardware manufacturer. Also, I wish if the software can works like harddrive software from manufacturer (e.g. SEAGATE, MAXTOR etc.), check the hardware and generate report on hardware physical health's status. Example: I would like to if a chipset (e.g. Northbrigde/Southbrigde) on a motherboard is working properly?

Here's my situation. I used Alcohol 120% to make virtual cd/dvd drives, but I make too much and the drives occupied the drive letters of my other physical drives. I told Alcohol 120% to make lesser drives to try to make the drives reappear again, but it didn't. Now I can't acces my xD cards, SD cards, flash drives, or anything that has to do with a usb connection. How do I make it reappear again?

Ok..here is the deal. I just bought a Digital Camcorder. I am trying to burn the contents of the SD card onto a DVD-RW disc. Here is the thing..it's not working. My computer (purchased in 2003) doesn't come with a DVD Burner..only audio. So..do I have to buy a seperate device..or can I buy DVD Burner software to save my home videos to disc? The least expensive method is always best!
Thanks for answering..and taking the time out of your day to help..as I really appreciate it.

I need to know how to rebuild my hard drive - literally. It is doa for sure. When I plug it in, it does not spin, jolt - nothing. Both my hard drives did this at the same time. Strong power surge I'm guessing. I replaced the hard drive, cables, etc. . Now I just need to get the data off the old hard drives - any suggestions? I'm thinking there has to be a way I can transfer the disks from one hd to an other similar one? I received my degree in computers 15 yrs ago. This is something we didn't cover that indebt then :-)

We have two computers hooked up to a DSL verizon modem both by means of internet cords. One of the longer cords connected to the slow internet computers is mangeled. While the internet which is fast is directly connected to the modem. Both computers have up-to-date anti-virus and spy ware programs. I have tested the mangled cord on the other computer, while it is a little slow, it is no where as slow as the other computer... So I am asking if the cord can affect the internet speed? I thought if it was the cord, the internet would not work at all... Thanks for any help

For example: You know the little light that comes on when you hit NumLock? My dad thinks it will burn out fast if left on. But I tried explaining to him that it is not like the lightbulb in a lamp. He doesn't understand that there is a difference between a lightbulb and an LED. But out of curiousity, how long would it take to burn out, if left on 24/7?
