I recently tried to start up my computer and as it was doing it's start up it stopped and I got a message that said "DR missing" ss Ctrl+Alt+Del to re-start you computer, well I did the ctrl+alt+del but it keeps bringing me to the same thing. I can't seem to find anything on this message....I don't know what else to do. I have tried to get into safe mode but "nothing" .
Can anyone help me ?
Thanks

Please check to see if there is a "flopy disk" in your floppy disk drive "A:\".

The reason your computer does not start in this case, is because how the computer starts up... It checks all drives (set up in the bios) for an operating system. First it usualy checks the A:\, then the D:\ then the C:\

If there is no floppy in your drive, one of the parts of your computer has gone bad... and its not the PSU, or the Video Card... my guess is that somthing on the inside might be alittle loose, or somthing might be installed incorrecly

I hope this helps, plz update your question if it is not the floppy

DR missing? is that exact message it is giving?? Could it be MBR is missing? If that is the case then you should really take it into a repair shop. there is not easy way to describe how to fix this problem, unless you really know what you are doing with comptures and since you posted here I am guessing you dont ;) sorry. The MBR is your master boot record, and you can fix it without losing your data but that is a tricky process. The easy fix is to format and reinstall, and even if you do the tricky process you would still need to format and reinstall, it is just a temporary solution so that you can pull of the information you need. But I would honestly take it to a computer repair shop instead of trying anything that anyone on here would tell you what to do, including me ;) because without knowing the exact message or the details leading up to this it is hard to give an exact answer and steps to help fix it, and if you dont know what you are doing you may make things worse and make it so that you can never retreive the info on your hard drive, so it is best to be safe and take it to someone who does know what they are doing, and make sure to tell them that you would like try and recover your data.

Hi

Well , the last hope will be to use a xp boot cd , boot from it , go into the repair part and do it , if that dosent work then try to install xp again BUT DO NOT FORMAT , create a directory call

c:\windows.000 and install it in that directory , then once you boot good , well do a back up and then install xp FULL again , please let me know if you need more help ok

Is is saying NetLDR is missing? That is the file that starts the loading process for windows. If you have the Windows cd you could try coping netldr.dll ,I believe it is, back over the cd-rom drive to replace the old file.

On your start up, how many beeps does your computer make. (It's a sound that your computer will make once it finishes "POST")

Email me how many and that would help alot.

do you have a floppy drive with a disk in it? That could be the culprit.
