Instead of installing more programs on your computer, I would say uninstall any extra programs lying in your windows drive etc. Check for spyware so that you are sure there are no programs hampering the performance of the machine.
Fixit software will only add to the problem because you will be augmenting the burden of a processor already messed up with too much information.
Periodically delete your temporary internet files, cookies and history and make sure you are free of spyware and advertising software.

First thing first, Clear History/Deleted files etc.
Run Defrag
Run Disk Clean

Check start up program, try to un check which are not important to run at the start.

Transfer image/Audio files on cd

Then finally there is a very good free soft for your help. No need to buy I also use it. Free from any spy ware and can do a lot of things

too many programs is the problem 90% of the time, although spyware and adware will do you in also. the user is normally to blame. get rid of programs you dont need, and use your system tools. then dont take things for granted.
