Im a student taking up BSECE. i will be submitting a project and have found a simple project called the LED sequencer wherein ill be using a IC 74HC4017 and a NE555 timer. my problem is that the said IC the 74HC4017 is nowhere to be found here in the philippines so can anyone suggest me any substitute to this IC???

I've heard different views on this. Some people say pretty much any microphone is fine--my software is the latest dragonspeak preferred--once your software gets accustomed to your voice; other people say 'noise cancelling' ones are preferable. My computer has the recommended sound card. But I'm writing a book and I really need optimal results, especially because I'm having hand surgery.

When i try to put my windows 2000 on standby I cannot turn it on. It press the monitor button but the screen remains black. I pressed escape and clicked my mouse it still didn't work. My monitor was on and when i turned it off and back on nothing still happened.

I have just upgraded to a 512 I put an extra 256 and I allready had a 256 which made 512 it doesnt seem any different is there something I should have done? I just put it in the pc and it is in correctly the extra 256 that is! thanks

The comps been acting really weird for the past month. As soon as I startup the computer the sounds, mic, etc work perfectly but it seems like after a certain time around 10-15 minutes everything shuts off and I cant listen or do anything...i go to control panel>sounds and audio devices and the only thing i can click on is under hardware and sounds

any advice?

I have a PC max RAM of 4 gig. I have 3 gig in it right now with a config. of 2x512 in the first 2 slots , and 2x1gig in the next 2 slots. If I switched the 1gig to the 512 slots , would it make a difference? This way the 1 gig chips would be at the start, and the smaller 512 would be at the rear(so to speak)...would it matter?

My sister brought me her computer tower to work on. I updated her Norton AntiVirus and installed XP Service Pack 2. She has dial up and I have DSL. I just plugged in my ethernet cable and done the work. She took it home and now when she plugs it into her dial up, it kills her phone line. When she plugged it into her power strip, it made the powerstrip squeal. Any ideas what I needed to do to set it back up for dial up. Thank You

OK, my computer is f@&king up and is horribly slow so I want to swipe the hard drive ans install linux. But I have verizon dsl so if I swipe the hads drive the drivers will be gone. Second, I lost the verizon disk also. I can't go on the internet so i need the disk. Will verizon give me a replacement disk? and can I install a windows disk on a linux OS???

I have a wife and 2 teenagers who use the pc all the time. our old pc is several years old and they are always complaining how slow it is. they say we need one that takes a graphics card and all this other stuff that i dont know anything about. It was custom made for me in 98 and has been upgraded since but when I try to add new software it says I don't have room. The cd rom won't read burned cd's and it's really slow. I've tried to use my defragmenter and it goes as far as 3% then starts over so I can't even use it to help clean things up. I've considered adding more hard drive but am unsure if that will help or maybe a new processer is what I need. I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to these things and I'm hoping for help understanding. I would like to just get a new one but I can't afford to get one with all the software I have now. Can anybody help me understand?

I need to know the pinout voltages (Ground, 5V & return) of a BFRSR81 2.5 Ampere power supply. The pins are arrainged in a triangle. I think the top one is ground. What are the other two? Please tell me how you measured them so I do not get them reversed in the classic mirror image mistake. i.e. looking at the cable or looking at the pins on the back of the router.

Is this normal? What do I do? Should I just reinstall (which I can do - my data is backed up) and use the whole 8GB hd instead of partitioning? It is old (~5 years guessing) and connected via IDE (internal). I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 Desktop version.
