First you need to get your XP code. There is a program to do that.. It will tell you what your cd CODE is.
Second you need the XP cd,
You also need to set your pc to boot from CD, ( it might be set to do this already. ).
If you have the cd you can just put it in and reboot, it should say hit anykey to boot from CD. then just follow the instructions from the cd Be prepared to spend at least 6 hours on it, After its all installed you will need to get your virus program installed, then all the microsoft updates, then Java Flash, Shockwave, and If your drivers for your video card dident get installed you will need to get the program for that, your sound card drivers.. In total expect to spend 8 to 10 hours doing it..
If not you need to go into your bios and set the CD drive to boot first.
(to get bios hit delete esc or F1 after the lights on the keyboard flash when booting). Hit esc and save and exit or something simmilar.. (ONLY CHANGE THE CD BOOT,) if you have issues you can always boot back to the bios and set it back to how it was, so pay attention to what you change,

Generally you format you computer when your installing you Operating System (Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, Ubuntu Linux, etc), but in many cases you buy your operating system already formatted and installed with an Operating System.
If you wish to reformat you drive and create a new partition, there is a great free and easy to use tool called "GParted". You can download the CD image, burn it to a blank CD-R and then you just boot your PC from the CD. It is as easy as just moving a slider.
Please do de-fragment you disk and make a backup of important information and don not interrupt the reformatting process halfway otherwise you may not be able to boot your computer.
Another comercial product is available called "Partition Magic"

# At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press the Enter key to set up Windows.
# Press the C key to continue setup.
# Press the F8 key to agree to the license.
