I've heard different views on this. Some people say pretty much any microphone is fine--my software is the latest dragonspeak preferred--once your software gets accustomed to your voice; other people say 'noise cancelling' ones are preferable. My computer has the recommended sound card. But I'm writing a book and I really need optimal results, especially because I'm having hand surgery.

Your best bet for voice recognition is a USB headset. This way, the sound is digitized before it goes into the computer and has a chance to pick up more interference from all the electronic components inside your tower.

Two reccommended headsets:

Higher quality, but higher price:

Any thirty dollar or above one is good. Noise cancelling is good because it cuts out background noise. You probably don't want a wireless headset because the batteries cost you a fortune.

Get Windows Vista a whole operating system that can be operated by voice commands.

Best mics are the headset, either single or double ear phone... but one that locates mic in front of mouth...

More Price.... Generally Better

Also good soundcard helps.... then check for mic boost setting
