The comps been acting really weird for the past month. As soon as I startup the computer the sounds, mic, etc work perfectly but it seems like after a certain time around 10-15 minutes everything shuts off and I cant listen or do anything...i go to control panel>sounds and audio devices and the only thing i can click on is under hardware and sounds

any advice?

That might be a virus.

1. Locate your antivirus program (if you don't have one use this http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

2. Download the latest updates

3. Run your virus checker

You could try to re-install the driver for the sound device if you have the software.
Sometimes you can "remove" the device and then "add new hardware" under control panel to have Windows replace the driver.

The case of the fading components? Drivers 'overwritten' in the buffer? What is turning on and saturating the system after 10-15 minutes?

Does the sound run OK for 20 minutes, if you boot a LiveCDrom? http://pclinuxos.com is great to use for troubleshooting these problems, as it boots in the CDrom, runs in RAM disc!

Try deleting the software, reboot the computer and then re-install the software. It could be there are some conflicts with some other drivers. Just a thought; but before you delete anything, just make sure you have the software available to re-install.

Good luck.

If you are using the on-board audio and not an expansion card then the battery for your mainboard BIOS may be on its way to giving up the ghost.
