There are a few differences between the two but mainly administrator and or backend functions that the average user never need know or worry about.
there are advantages to using pro over home but you have to use both to decide which is best suited to you.

the actual difference in these two versions of windows is xp pro has more networking capablities,a back up option and remote desktop
with xp pro you can actually remotely assist someone with either xp pro or home, but with home you cant remotely assist anyone but xp pro systems can assist you
xp pro is more pointed towards the bussiness world were xp home is as it says on the tin"a home operating system",great for games, internet, photos, videos ect
both use the service pack 2 update and ,but you find that certain games wont work with xp pro,but only with home
personally as a home user ,i much prefer xp home, also its much cheaper than pro
good luck

I've had both nad still haven't seen much difference in XP Pro. It certainly isn't worth the extra money if people are thinking about ugrading to Pro.
Got my XP Pro custom built into my present pc

You would not notice a difference.
There are a few extra options on XP pro, but the average user never even accesses these functions.

Pro has got more administrative tools and security options , the average user would not gain much by having this edition so save your money unless you wat to network a few computers and administrate them from your pro version.
