I just built a new computer (478 pin board/ pentium processor configuration) and everything works fine. However, when I click "turn off" from the shutdown menu in XP, I get a message saying "it is now safe to turn off your computer." I have to manually hit the power button on the tower to turn it off. I went into the BIOS under Power Management to see if I could change anything there, but it didn't work. Is there anythign else I can do?

Hi, My computer fan is spinning too fast and is creating too much noise. The average speed is around 34000-35000RPM with a computer temperature around 35-40 degrees celcius

I bought a barebones box w/ motherboard /power supply /fan and processor fan. I unscrewed the fan, installed the processor then remounted the cooling fan. I put the RAM in correctly then installed the Hard Drive (connected it to the motherboard and power supply and also did the same for the CD Burner.

The machine turns on and both fans are working. Trouble is nothing comes up on the screen and the DVD player wont even work , no light/ wont eject door. (I have it set to master)

Any one have any ideas or diagnosis?

This is the first computer I put together so I'm green and need help.

Thanks
Will

I'm 15 years old, dad says i'm gonna get a new comp soon. I get to choose (not something crazy expensive) which desktop.

I want to get a computer which is between okay and good for gaming i.e. will play games e.g. Warcraft 3, runescape,
PERHAPS WoW and ea rugby 06 etc. but nothing crazy like battlefield 2142. However my priorities are mainly blogging using e.g. facebook etc. and doing work.

these are the 2 comps i'm either gonna get:

-HP Pavilion Intel Pentuim D 3.00Ghz
-1 GB RAM
-Intel GMA 950 (graphics card - doesn't show how much memory it has on the leaflet)
-320 GB harddrive memory
- $7998 Hong kong dollars ($999 US dollars)

or

-HP Pavilion intel core 2 duo (processor) 2.13 Ghz
-1 GB RAM
-500GB Harddrive memory
-NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE PCI-Express 3D (graphics card - 256 MB)
-$9998 Hong Kong dollars ($1249 US dollars)

Guys which comp do you think BEST suits my needs???

sorry if i didn't provide enough data... i'm no PC expert =(

I need to clean out some room on my hard drive, and I want to eliminate some programs and pictures, and I see some pictures are measured in kilobytes and others in megabytes. Which ones are larger? Gigabytes are the largest, then what comes after that, etc. on down the line.

ok, NOT a computer person, so do not speak in computer lingo...talk like you are explaining it to your grandparent!!! I have a Dell Laptop with Windows 2000. if additional information is needed, let me know, I can tell you further info. Also, if it involves buying something and adding it to my computer, just say $$ because I'm not putting any money into this computer, I would rather buy new....hopefully this year :-)

Ok I just installed a new video card and a new stick of RAM which is so great
but when i turn on my computer it said
my
CPU clock speed had change or something like that
and I need to change it in MMOS or something
so i ask on other forum it said to take out the CMOS battery
and replace it after 5min.

1 Ok so last night I found where the battery is but i was wondering how do I take it out? it so hard no matter how much i keep pulling it up it won't budge (I'm not good with computer)

and I search on here about it and i saw a question that said that after they replacing the battery the comp. ask for their password or something like that
i was wondering does this always happen after removing the battery
because i don't know my password accept when log in on my profile

I'm in the market for a computer. I listen to itunes, edit photos (I like taking photos), and the internet. Oh yeah, I'm a student too (college) so appropiate software. I've been to dell.com but they so many questions. I know I don't want the usual anti-virus that comes with computers. Norton and McAfee suck. I plan on buying a real anti-virus program. Other than that I have no clue. I'm not very keen on hp's. I bought one when I was a freshmen and I just had problem after problems.

would you build it with an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2ghz cpu, or a P4 520 2.8ghz cpu. These choices will also be included with 2-1gig strips of ddr400mhz mem., a 6800GT PCIe 256mb ddr3 graphics card, and 2-74gb Raptors . This is somewhat a follow up question from my original post... thx

I asked before if I could use a Dell Windows XP installation disc on a Compaq. One answer was no because it has a product key code. The thing is that this installation disc has never even been opened, let alone installed. Can I install it in my Compaq now. Thanks again.

Hi. I purchased a pc online for my parents, and they were supposed to get a pc with an AMD Athlon 1800+ CPU. However, I came back home and found out that they got an Intel Celeron 1.80ghz cpu instead. I know for a fact that Celerons are slower than Athlons, but I do not want to return the whole pc, but rather get a partial refund instead. How much do you think would be a reasonable amount of refund I should get for this? I don't know the price differences for the two different cpus, so it's hard for me to compare the prices. Have a nice day.

I have a Compaq 7360, and someone recommended that I can upgrade to xp. During setup, i reached 56% and then it said it couldn't copy p3.sys. Thing is, i dont have a pIII processor, but an AMD k6 processor. Should i skip the file and if i do skip, what will be the effects?
(I can't boot up my computer anymore because i deleted the C; partitrion while reformatting)
