Hi. I purchased a pc online for my parents, and they were supposed to get a pc with an AMD Athlon 1800+ CPU. However, I came back home and found out that they got an Intel Celeron 1.80ghz cpu instead. I know for a fact that Celerons are slower than Athlons, but I do not want to return the whole pc, but rather get a partial refund instead. How much do you think would be a reasonable amount of refund I should get for this? I don't know the price differences for the two different cpus, so it's hard for me to compare the prices. Have a nice day.

You should just send back the motherboard and processor and tell them to give you what you ordered.

Ok. first off if they bought this computer thinking they were getting an AMD, and thats what they were told, then they have been fruaded. I would look into that.

If not and they just bought the Celeron baced, then here are a few things to know.
Celeron began its life as a combatant against AMD's Fanless Processors, in which both failed to work, so Intel descided since they had this new name and product why not exploit it. They re-entroduced Celeron as a value processor. Very overclocked specs, runs hotter, cheaper components and very cruddy for gameing or serious business use. This is a good processor only for those that check e-mail and do some word or something like that and really dont use the computer for anything major.

Now, something to think about.
AMD baced computer systems run at least a min of $600 give or take depending on the manf. and the other compnents of the p.c.
A celeron, is about 399. Sometimes 299 at walmart.
So think about how much they paid, see if when they bought it it was supposed to be an AMD or advertised as an AMD. If it was then you can ask for you full money back, exchange for the right product or you can sue.

Hope this helps!

An Athlon 1800+ runs at 1.53 GHz, the 1800 being AMDs assessment of equivalent Pentium 4 MHz. Celerons have the same core and L1 cache as Pentium 4s but smaller L2 cache, maybe 5% slower than P4 on average. Both CPUs are obsolete models.

You really need to look into getting compensation for being defrauded, the price difference between the two will not amount to anything really. Both are extremely old, and will probably each sell for less than $80, meaning you might end up with a $10 price difference at best.

Check eBay or TigerDirect.
