HP has reasonable prices, great products and tech support.
You don't get that from dell.
Edit.
I forgot to mention HP is actually the leader in sales, not Dell.
OPENMINDED ARMENIAN MAN, you have it ALL backwards.

With Dell you get to customize and get what you want and what you don't want...
And dell tends to be about 2-5% cheapers because you are buying directly from Dell and not from a retailer like Best Buy, who also gets the "cut"
I have had a Dell laptop for almost 5 years. And had one problem and it was with the adapter, i had to order a new one, it was like 60 dollars, but other than that had no issues.
If I have a choice, I would go with Dell.....And this seems to be the popular choice.
And Dell has 24 hour customer service - they take pride in their customer service....
Dude Im getting a Dell!

I'd get an HP. You can get parts at your local computer store. Dell often has unusual parts that you can sometimes only get from Dell if you have a problem. Sometimes, you're just out of luck.

HP been around longer, I have 2 Laptops and 1 Desktop.
Dell, seems to be more popular.
Both use same same components, made in Taiwan and China.
If, I were buying, I buy the one that I get the most for my money.
As mentioned below I build mine now, Towers. I think you can even build a Laptop. You buy what called a Bare-Bones and then add what you want. I thinking about trying one for fun. It an expensive Hobby, but, putting it together and then hearing it post for the first time.......... well it "Almost" as fun as sex. :-D

They are about the same TBH.
If I bought a laptop it would be from HP, if I bought a desktop it would be from Dell.
No real reason. Just because the HP laptops seem to be better. I don't really have anything to back that up. I build my own desktops.

I'd go with HP. You usually get more bang for your buck.
