I have a Compaq 7360, and someone recommended that I can upgrade to xp. During setup, i reached 56% and then it said it couldn't copy p3.sys. Thing is, i dont have a pIII processor, but an AMD k6 processor. Should i skip the file and if i do skip, what will be the effects?
(I can't boot up my computer anymore because i deleted the C; partitrion while reformatting)

Most of the time it's because of your CD or DVD that sould be cleaned or maybe your CD drive is old.but sometime it refers to your RAM and maybe the capasitors in your mainboard.if it wasn't from CD or CD drive check the mainboard.

Almost sounds like your pc is having problems reading the cd, try and clean the cd and try again. I'm not a big fan of skipping files during setup cause you never know what you are going to need later. Try and choose the option to retry, I've had this happen before and just retrying/taking cd out cleaning it was able to finally read the cd.

If, the Install CD is not bad the other thing you may need to update your BIOS and your motherboard chipset drivers.
p3.sys is a "Processor Device Driver" and as stated above it may still work without this. Not hurt to try. You need to be careful when updating BIOS. It a part of XP SP1.
