ok, NOT a computer person, so do not speak in computer lingo...talk like you are explaining it to your grandparent!!! I have a Dell Laptop with Windows 2000. if additional information is needed, let me know, I can tell you further info. Also, if it involves buying something and adding it to my computer, just say $$ because I'm not putting any money into this computer, I would rather buy new....hopefully this year :-)

Well the good news for you is this little trick doesnt require any extra money on your part. To start off, go down to the lower left hand corner of your computer and click on the Start Menu. On the right hand of the start menu you should be able to go up to the My Computer icon, right click on it and go down to where it says Properties. You should get an informational screen with a bunch of tabs. Click on the tab that says Advanced. Where it says Performance, click on the Settings button. Click on the Advanced Tab again. Now you should see a page that has your Virtual Memory, click on the Change button. Here you can edit how much virtual memory you want. I generally recommend setting this to no more than 2 times the amount of actual memory you have. So if you have for example 512 Megs of RAM, you would put in 1024 which equals 1 Gig of Virtual Memory. Oh, by the way, this is instructions for Windows XP, but 2000 should be very similar. Hope this has helped.

Why do you want/need to increase your virtual memory,,, it will not do you any good it won't make it go faster... you won't see any difference what so ever, for the price of memory today it is cheap a half the price.....and it will make your puter run faster,

if you have 128 meg of ram with 2000 thats should be ok, if you have 256 that should be a lot better, and 512 is excellent for 2000,

Virtual memory is just a dumping area for windows to place files in use but not being used... at that time.
