I bought a barebones box w/ motherboard /power supply /fan and processor fan. I unscrewed the fan, installed the processor then remounted the cooling fan. I put the RAM in correctly then installed the Hard Drive (connected it to the motherboard and power supply and also did the same for the CD Burner.

The machine turns on and both fans are working. Trouble is nothing comes up on the screen and the DVD player wont even work , no light/ wont eject door. (I have it set to master)

Any one have any ideas or diagnosis?

This is the first computer I put together so I'm green and need help.

Thanks
Will

I would start by taking everything back apart and trying again. Maybe your CPU wasn't seated properly or the RAM didn't lock into place like it should. Make sure you have not overlooked small things such as plugging your monitor in or missing a power connection on the motherboard.

If you are still having problems you just need to troubleshoot which componenent is giving you trouble. Take everything out but the CPU and the RAM. If it does have on-board video, the computer at that point should give you a post. If you don't get a post with everything taken out but those parts, then you know your problem lies within the PSU, RAM, CPU, or possibly a faulty motherboard.

Troubleshooting a computer is all about pinpointing the problem to a single component. Try swapping things out with different parts that you may have. Try your local computer shop if you don't have any parts and see if they can test your components.

Good luck

Will, " Cirric " gave you real good advice.

One more thing, Do you know for sure your Monitor is good ?
Simple test, Disconnect it from your VGA connector from the motherboard plug. Power Plug (s) all plugged in and turn on your Power Switch. You should get a statement ( On Screen ), Saying " No Signal ". If you get this 'No Signal Statement', you may have a Motherboard Problem, it could simply be connectors. Recheck your "Power On" wires from case to Motherboard.
As long as you did get the ' fans ' working, your power supply is working.

I hope this helps.

Hi Will. Glad your rolling your own! You have an operating system, do you not? If so, start by disconnecting the drives and just installing the HD. IDE 0 with the HD jumper set to MA (master). The DVD wants to be MA on the IDE 1 cable. Try that. Good luck!

is the CPU fan plugged into the motherboard? (the different followers might desire to be plugged in as properly) Do you pay attention any beeps? maximum motherboards have a "beep code" to show if there is any issues. of direction in case you probably did shrink to rubble the connections to the motherboard, or plugged the CPU in incorrect, probability is you have blown those areas and could might desire to purchase new ones. each thing else - RAM, any added enjoying cards, HDD, different stuff is notably fool evidence. It the two suits easily, or you get carry of interior the incorrect way. you could have only long gone a million area at a time, powering up in between to verify the gadget nevertheless works: skill furnish (by itself) skill furnish + mom board (could get some beeps a minimum of) skill furnish, motherboard, CPU+fan etc.

U might wanna check if u plugged ur hard drive correctly, if it's IDE, it should go in the IDE port and if it's a SATA hardrive, should go in the SATA port. Check if ur hard drive is powering up. If it isn't, make sure the power cable coming from ur power supply is hooked up right. If alll of this fine, u might wanna get ur motherboard checked out.

make sure you look at the motherboard for any power cables that you still need to plug in. i had the same problem. also, you might have fried your computer if you didn't touch the case first before working on it ( to get rid of static electricity). try to plug in all the power cables and then if that doesn't work email me at vasiliyrussu@msn.com and I'll try to help you out further.

My first thought is that it sounds like a Power supply problem, is your power supply giving you enough juice? I know alot of Newer Hardware really sucks the power.

Good luck
