I mostly play battle field 2:special forces alot, when I get in a game online, it appears a bit laggy/glitchy for the first 45 seconds or so... not much of a problem, but, based on my computers specs, which part of my PC could I upgrade to see the biggest change for the better when I play games? This is just a computer from best buy, so its not that high performanced.

AMD Sempron Processor 3300+ 2.0GHz

100GB hard drive

736MB of ram (previously upgraded this)

Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce 6100

My family has had this computer for about 5 1/2 years, and its getting kind of old. We had Millenium Edition on it, and recently upgraded to XP. But i've been thinking of ways to try and coerce my father into getting a new computer, somehow. I just need a good plan. And so is building your own computer better than buying a brand new one?

I hear fire dog is pretty good, but not quite what I'm looking for as far as cost is concerned. I just need to transfer a few program files and a ton of documents.

I think its the fan inside or something, but when I shut down my computer and start it again it makes this weird grinding noise, then it stops after about 5 mins. But now it keeps doing it about every 20 mins or so it will make this noise then stop. What does this mean? My computer works fine by the way, I just don't like this noise.

This is a shared computer, me and my parents. I was wondering if I could put linux on it, and change back to xp if needed, and if ALL of my software will work on it. Also how does virtual box work. I found a "You Tube" video, and was wondering if I would need anything extra to do this with my computer, like install linux (is an xp now), and use this feature, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzyHoRklWLE. We have Bluetooth
Yahoo Messenger (The newest)
Kodak Easyshare
Avvenu
Palm Desktop
Active Sync
Mcafee
Google Desktop
Adobe Acrobat Reader (the newest)
Corel Paintshop Pro X
Corel Painter IX
Corel Photo Album
Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, Exel 2003 (We bought this for 200).
How does our doccuments work (as in can i install linux without loosing anything), and how compatible is linux with other computers?

Just I tried to remove the existing files. It is not erased.
Where I have gone wrong. How to overcome this situation to utilise the CD further.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz 64 Bit 4M L2 Cache

AMD 64 X2 AM2 5600+ 2.8 GHz 64 Bit 2x1MB L2 Cache

Which CPU processor is better on performance (applications & gaming wise)? because they are both around the same price.
Having a hard choice... any input would be great!

I just got this computer from a friend who rarely touched it, but it's a few years old. So far I am planning on upgrading to 512 MB of RAM and putting an ethernet port on it. I also will probably put a burner in it. Is there anything else that I can do to make it better? What about the Intel Celeron 733 MHz processor, can I upgrade that? Is it worth upgrading?

Here are the specs.:

I have built many customs systems. I just finished building a Home theater PC using a 775 socket motherboard.

I have a Dell 4700 with...
1.5 Gb of DDR2 400MHz ram
250 GB SATA Hard Drive
16x Dual Layer Burner
PCI-e Nvidia 6600 with 128 MB Ram
Pentium 4 520 (2.8 HT 800 FSB)
BTX 500 Watt PSU

Dell lists the compatible CPUs and the highes two they have listed are the 560 (3.6 HT 800 FSB) & 570 (3.8 HT 800 FSB). My CPU socket is a LGA 775.

It would be more cost efficent to replace the board and CPU, but I would rather keep the system as it is now.

I have custom built AMD machine with a Machspeed board, 1.5GB DDR (OC to 433 DDR), AMD 64 3700+ 2.2 (overclocked to 2.6 4300), 256 MB ATI PCI-e card and both these systems are pretty equivalent in FPS for games but the Intel blows it out when I am video editing.

I think a 3.8 would be a great upgrade by the end of the year to help keep my system current, plus it is 64 bit compliant.
