My PC has 12% memory left and I'd like to give it a little more but I don't know where to begin. I don't want to do a COMPLETE memory dump, but I do want to give my PC some more memory. Any suggestions?

I suspect that you are not talking about "memory", but about "storage space" on the hard drive.

There is only one way to get more space on the hard drive, get rid of some on the files currently on it.

You can copy your music, pictures, videos, etc to either CD or DVD instead of leaving them on the hard drive. Then you look through the programs on your computer and uninstall any of them that you can live without.

Once you have deleted everything you can, run a disk cleanup, and defrag the hard drive. This is will not free any more space, but it will rearrange the remaining files so that your computer runs faster.

Go to download.com and download FreeRam XP Pro 1.52
That will clean up your memory when you tell it to or automatically. I have only 768 mbs ddr ram and I keep at least 550 mb open at any given time. Open the side of your computer up and of course shut off the puter 1st. Locate the memory on the motherboard...either 2 or 3 or 4 slots open. I 'd get into the info, but I think you should take it to a professional to put in. Like the Geeks at Best Buy. Be Safe

I suggest using CCleaner to help remove unneeded startup items which drain your available memory. You can get this program from my site. www.comstar-computers.com/downloads/
However you are doing what most people do. You are confusing Memory with Hard Drive Storage space.

The same program can assist with that too.

Is the memory you speak of in the hard drive( C DRIVE ) ? do you want to keap all your files ? if you do take to a knowlabale person you trust and have them install a slave drive ( another hard drive ) that way you can keap all your files and folders and get more memory without deleting anything, cause you could delete a file you desperatly need or crash your computer causing you to take it to a computer tech anyway

You could buy a zip drive and put it on that or put some information that you probably wont need a lot on a flash drive and floppy disks. Then if you have a cd or dvd burner put it on that!

you need a program like tune up utilities to do this. It will optimize you memory on demand and will tell you memory usage etc.

Try deleting all the files that you no longer use, and try defragmenting the drive.
