I'm more specifically thinking of trying Ubuntu--something easy to use, with a lot of help in case things go bad. I did some research and surely, Ubuntu seems to offer enough of just the essentials--music, videos, photos, word processing, web-browsing, etc. HOWEVER, there's one thing holding me back: Gaming. I'm not a hardcore gamer but every now and then I like to buy some new game that's out, and I'm a fan of pretty graphics. What does Linux have to offer in the gaming department, as far as compatibility with next-gen games, and graphics?

I like what Apple has to offer and after owning a dell for the past 3 years, I am over them. Their customer service sucks, their warranty is a joke...you call to use it and they will find a reason why they won't help you. I even went so far as to buy a dell for my mother, and as soon as the warranty expired, it broke. I would like to spend no more than $1,500-$2,000.

I have a 2-3 year old Dell with XP and duel CD drives only. I'd like to be able to burn DVDs. Do I need two new drives? Both DVD-Rs? What's the difference between a DVD-R and a DVD-RW? What else do I need after the new drives?

I am in the middle of upgrading my computer because its annoying spending all the thousands every time i buy a new computer to update, and the computer i have now i got 2 years ago and its quite decent and its everything i want minus a thing or 2,

my question is the computer i have came with 512mb ram, and i just wanted to add 2gb ram in total since i have 4 ram slots, so i went out and got 2gb worth of ram 4 x 512mb, but after i inserted them i checked the properties on my computer so see how much ram hoping would show 2.0gb, but for some reason it only reads 1.75gb, does anyone know why?, does this mean my mother board cant read over 1.75gb or something, or is there something else i have to do, i know about computers but when it comes to hardware i only know a little bit..
