I noticed the Intel core duo processors are one of the best processors out. I noticed they dont have hyperthread on it is this a bad thing...and what do you think is good from these.............. and should hyperthreading be something on a processor before considering to buy?

Yes and no.

Hyperthreading is the ability of the processor to execute multiple instructions in a queue fashion, executing thread 2 while thread 1 is waiting for a RAM prefetch operation, for example.

A dual core processor has two CPUs in one die, and can each run one operation at a time.

Threading AND multiple processors is the ideal situation, because then you have more than one CPU all processing threads...

Also, any software must be written and compiled to take advantage of multiple CPU and or Hyperthreading. Otherwise it will do you no good at all.

This, by the way, has been standard in the Sparc CPU line from Sun Microsystems for years. I have an Ultra-80 with 4 64 bit processors in it that speed tests out to 11.1GHz P5 at 32 bits...

The good thing about these is that they are the fastest processors currently available, the reasons being they have a good amount of cache, fast FSB speeds, good architecture to name a few. They also run fairly cool, and overclock very well.

As for hyperthreading, the reason they don't have it is because Intel has basically dropped it, the reason being that it wasn't that good. While it sounded good on paper, having two virtual cores from one physical core, in practice it only improved performance by about 5%. The focus now is on having multiple physical cores. So to sum up, no hyperthreading should not be a consideration when buying new processors.

the very basis / concept of hyperthreading seem redundant & extinct when u mention dual or quad core processors

why fake or simulate, when u actually have two cores or even four in single die !
