My goal is to burn dvd's and make movies. I am new to mac's but this is under 1,000 dollars so its an ok deal brand new.

Yes, by a mile! I have a Celeron from the pentium 3 age that burns dvd's fine.(566mhz)

With the Mac you get a Video package with it I think? and you can burn DVD's with it, if a DVD burner is installed on it, Yes the mac is a excellent computer,
But the main draw back with the Mac is that the software is very expensive if you need to buy it,,,,, you will need to check into this before buying a Mac system,, nothing comes cheap with Mac computers, and the repairs are expensive after the warranty is out on it. these are the things to think about,

yes, i burn dvd's and i have a slow computer w/ one core. the mac mini has a SUPERDRIVE
