Desktops - April 2007

We have tried installing Netscape,ran all spyware and adware programs. Just can't figure out why it turns off when loading certain games. I have Pentium 2 with Windows 2000 professional. Any ideas will be welcome.

i want to build a computer and according to the specs it states two elixir 512mb ddr2 memory modules.

what is the difference between 512M PC6400 Elixir DDR2 800 SDRAM and 512MB PC2-5400 Elixir DDR2 SDRAM?

which one should i go for any why?

the computer is to be used for general education work, word typing, etc

My comp has 512mb of RAM, but it reads as if it only has one 256 one.. or more specifically, 190mb only.
Any possible ideas what went wrong, besides not fixing the RAM properly. It is fixed properly, cuz, for a few months after i installed it, it was working perfectly fine.

I am planning to get a very powerful gaming computer after I am done with some exams in June . My dilema is this : Should I get a traditional AMD-FX62 Cpu on socket AM2 or get a newer AMD FX-74 on a Quad CPU platform ? And , on more question , Do I have to buy 2 AMD FX-74Cpus or they come 2 in one box (because socket F mobos have 2 chips ) ?Thanks!

I've just been to place my order on a core 2 duo 6300 equipped PC (based on the advise from the people in my last question), but when I got on the phone the guy said they have an offer to upgrade AMD units to a 5200 Athlon X2 for the same price (whereas the previous AMD system at this price was the Athlon 4200 X2.

As I understand it, an Athlon 4400 X2 is on par with the CD E6300. I cant afford to spend any more so whilst i appreciate that the intel Core Duo chips muller AMD on the higher end of things, will the AMD 5200 perform better than a E6300 intel for the same money?

Okay currently i have a ASUSTek Computer INC. Amberine M 1.03 motherboard. I have no idea what that all means.

Pretty much i have a3500+ amd 64bit processor. I want to be able to have the benefits of a dual core or even a dual core duo. Problem with this is i dont know if my motherboard is compatible.

I bought the computer a year ago, so i would asume it would be, but i dont wanna make a mistake of buying a processor and not being able to use it. So how do i find out if it can support a certant processor? I hear people talking about certant processors with certant chip sets and have no clue whats going on.

SO pretty much, how can i find out if my current chipset/motherboard will work right with an AMD dual core? If so what would you recomend? Should i buy another motherboard? If so, how do i know which processor works with which motherboard?

My PC has 512 MB of total physical memory ( I added 256)) But I only have 150.90 available. I have 2 GB of total virtual memory with 1.96 still available. My C drive capacity is 67.56 GB with 40.17 GB of free space. I am getting the low virtual memory pop up way too often it seems. I have read the answers you all have given in the past but this happens sometimes as soon as I log on and have nothing running. I have Norton Internet Security 2007, it runs updates automatically. I also have the PC set to run automatic updates weekly. In my mind my PC is current with all it needs to be. This is not a major problem, yet, it is just annoying. Thanks for the help. One more thing, what are add ons? example : do you want to run IE without add ons.
