Is the Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 (4x 2.4GHz/8MB L2 Cache/1066FSB) worth the extra money for use in gaming/multi-tasking,along the lines of running an online game and programs in the backround?

I want to build a new PC and heard the new Penryn chips coming out the 2nd half of this year will be 40% faster than current core duo chips. Will I be able to build a PC right now and then just swap in a Penryn chip into my existing motherboard or should I hold off and wait for new motherboard models to come out?

it already has a GB, and I wanted to add more. I HAVE opened the case and I can see that it has 4 slots for memory, 2 of them are already in use. my computer is still very new, but I'm not afraid to do upgrades myself as I have done them before. my computer is an HP Pavilion running Windows Xp.
I want to add another 1GB stick.. can one slot handle 1 GB?.. in that case, I could (if I wanted) upgrade to a total of 4 GB ..correct?

It just so happened to occur the same week the warranty ran out that my desktop pc wont load windows.

What Happens:
- once turned on the computer will load up with a black screen and provide the options such as:
to load into safe mode
load safe mode with commands
load windows normally
etc

Not one of these options succesfully load windows.
Instead the windows screen will show with a bar moving and then it will go back to the same screen as if the computer has just been turned on again.

I will be taking it to a tech but thought id ask if anyone knows why this occurs and is there a chance to save the precious data on the hard drive?

thanks.

I've heard "boat anchor" used to refer to Macs. [Crash Different: "I like the handle. It's so you can attach a chain and use it as a BOAT ANCHOR." My teacher, years before that video appeared: "Apple II E. Not just a paperweight, better than a boat anchor."]

Do you commonly hear "boat anchor" used to describe Macs or old, useless computers?

If there is more RAM, does it just let you do more things at the same time or does it let your comp go faster

See, I'm deciding whether to make my computer RAM 2 gigabytes for gaming or just hold out my money for future upgrades.

I have an nvidia 7600 GS video card, 256 mb pci-e, and I was wondering: If I put in more RAM, will the anti-aliasing on my games have a decreased impact in relation to my frames per second?

Basically, If I have more RAM and I have anti aliasing on in my games, will they run faster in comparison to my 1 gigabyte system ram now?

Thank you, I await anyone's reply.

As a side question, where do textures get stored temporarily when playing games? Is it just in the video card memory or is some of it saved in system ram too? This is kinda where I got the idea of upgrading my RAM..

On my computer if I replace the motherboard, would it reconize the hard drive and everything else and just start right up. Or would I have to do some kind of programming? How involved is it to take one out and put a new one in?
