Simply RAM is a chalk board. When you turn off your computer all of it is not saved unless you save it to a hard drive. The bigger the chalk board more programs and work can be written (by the teacher) on the chalk board space. If there isn't enough RAM, the teacher CPU must wait until the program is done rereading and calcuating it on paper (hard drive) So think of 4 GB ram. A classroom with 8chalk boards. The slowest student copier would be real happy!

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. When you run programs they all use some sort of Random memory to run properly. So if you have more RAM you can have more programs running properly. So in a way it does make your computer faster by allowing more programs to run freely at the same time.
Hope this helps!

yes.
if you have too little RAM, than adding more would allow you to go faster.
past a certain amount, really just increases how much you can do at once, more than the actual speed.
its all a matter of bottlenecks... a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. if the ram is the weak link, adding more can make it stronger, past a certain point, it simply defers the slow-down to another aspect of the computer, while it still helps SOME it doesn't help as much per quantity.

Generally both. Your PC will only slowdown when available RAM gets low and starts using virtual memory.
RAM is now cheap but may not be for long. Go for 1Gb or higher. Dual channel memory mode also makes your PC run faster.

it lets you run more things at the same time more quickly. essentially, all the programs on your pc need memory to run. ram is 100000 to 1000000 faster than your hard drive. when you run out of ram, your computer uses your hard drive. by having more ram, you won't have to use your hard drive as much, so it appears to work much faster.

make confident this is nicely suited alongside with your motherboard. the priority is probably your previous RAM is slower than the hot one, if this is take place your swifter RAM will decrease this is velocity in accordance to the slower one. Say in case you have one that runs on 333MHz and the different at 400MHz, then 400MHz will shop on with the fee of 333MHz.

Programs run faster and you can run more programs to a certain extent. So both.
