I've got a pair of Pentium II PCs - a 233mhz/256meg ram running win95 and a 333mhz/128meg ram running win98, each with a 4gb hd. Before I take them to the local Goodwill for recycling, I want to know if there are any fun stunts I can pull with them, like turning them into a media center, RAID backup for my real PC, Linux box, etc. Any tricks you can recommend to a low-level computer geek?

I have a year 2001 Compaq deskpron EN 1GHz Pentium III Desktop computer with 384MB of RAM. It's Max RAM is 512MB. Would the extra 128MB of RAM offer a noticable performance increase? The peak usage of memory for today is 704MB. That is with the Virtual memory being used as well as the 384MB Physical memory. Page file is 1 GB.

And no upgrade to xp please. For me, this is an upgrade.
I had Millenium, too many problems. Had computer shop install 2000 pro and it says 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195. Does this have C/Windows/Winnit/System32? Because I looked and I do not have a Windows file, just the Winnit file. (I only ask because I was told to download a file to there, a .dll file) Anyway, when I looked, the .dll file I needed was in the winnit folder.
Is it possible he did not install it correctly? When I turned the computer on I got a message that CPU is unworkable or has been changed. PLease recheck CPU soft menu. F1 to continue or something else to enter setup. I'm not touching anything. Someone suggested typing in run box msconfig, then go to boot.ini to see he correctly installed it over the ME. I get the red X that says Cannot find msconfig (or one of its components) Make sure path & filename are correct and all required libraries are available. Outta room. Details later after post

Hello. I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 Edition with Microsoft Net Framework 3.0 on a Dell Optiplex GX1 450 Pentium 3. I currently have two 120gb drives working on the machine. I am trying to migrate the Master set 120gb drive to another machine and replace it with a 160gb drive. After much searching on the internet and my PC repair text book I am unable to get XP to recognize the whole 160gb. I have seen several comments regarding XP Service Pack 1 and 1a being options. When I try and install on the machine in question, it states essentially that it is unable to. I have tried using FDISK and FORMAT to no avail. Can anyone suggest something to help?

Wasssssssssssssssssssssssuppppppppppppppppp!!! First off, thanks for taking your time to answer my question. Ok I have a Gateway computer and a DVD ROM drive, is there any software out there that I can download to let me burn a dvd? Whenever I stick in the blank DVD the pc does not recognize it but I can watch DVD movies no problem. If you know any software that can fix this problem, preferably free then I would appreaciate it. Thanks all you smart computer people.

I was messing around in my system configuration the other day and I noticed that HT was off for my Pent 4 processor. That must be the default from Dell, because I have never changed it before. I was wondering why it would be off. Plus, are there any drawbacks to running your hard drive on "performance" rather than "bypass" other than extra noise? I turned the processor to HT "on" and hard drive to "performance" for some extra juice, if there is no reason why not to.
