no. usually, crt monitors have a vga connection. lcd monitors have vga and/or dvi connections. likewise, the computer itself may have vga or dvi as its video output.

CRT monitors typically use the 15 pin analog VGA connector.

LCD monitors may have VGA only or both VGA and DVI connectors. DVI connectors have 24 digital pins plus 5 for analog interface. More details here:

No. Some have VGA and others have DVI. Some actually have both.

Yes, unless one or the other is really, really, really old... and in that case you just buy a converter.
