Check out the Linux distributions at
http://www.linux.org/dist/
Live CDs are especially good for those of us reluctant to get our feet wet since they load into the computer without copying anything to the hard drive unless the user specifically instructs them to do so (just boot from the CD).
Ubuntu is good ( http://www.ubuntu.com/ ), and Dynebolic is geared toward multimedia applications ( http://www.dynebolic.org/ ).
Good luck.

your not going to go far with 4 GB. My suggestion is to gut them put both hard drives into one PC run the Windows 98 if it still works! Use the computer as a printer terminal or keep it on all the time to check mail before running somewhere instead of waiting for your other computer to boot, some Pent 2s still run great for the purpose of checking mail and typing word docs just keep the win 98 Operating system.

I use numerous 'old computers' in my network to perform different dedicated functions that I don't have to waste the resources of my main computers. I use a IBM Aptiva P1 66MHz computer running OS/2 warp to monitor LAN stats and network connections, A Compaq 386sx as a UNIX/telnet terminal, A HP PII 300MHz runs win98SE using Ares and Emule (P2P apps) searching the Internet 24/7/365 for all my media needs like music, videos, ebooks...etc - this computer alone takes a great burden off my main system since i never have to shut down the search!
Consider building a computer system LAN where you can dedicate certain tasks to this machines, its practical and fun!

Get a few PCI Network Interface Cards, install Linux and make really GREAT Routers out of them. Far better than what they sell in OfficeMax.

Do you really need a computer? I use to like computers a lot. BUT. Now I'm not so sure.
Fun? What fun? When you find something fun. Tell me about it. I am bored with computers.
Stick a NIC into each. Give them to some kids. And buy them a DSL Extreme account.

The hardware still has some mileage as (small) web, file or databases servers (for sharpening your networking skills).
Your operating systems (w95 and w98) are somewhat limiting you tho. If you had a few copies of NT or Linux, you would have more options.
