Basically here's what you'll need:
Case w/ Power Supply at least 450Watt
Motherboard (w/ audio and Ethernet if you want)
CPU w/ fan and heatsink
RAM (Memory) - at least 1GB (Vista OS) recommend 2GB
Hard Drive - at least 120GB
Video Card - PCI-e or AGP w/ at least 256MB
CD/DVD ROM Drives.
Audio Card - if not already on motherboard
Ethernet Card - if not already on motherboard
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse

That should just about take care of you. However, you will need to ensure compatability among the hardware. Meaning, don't get a CPU or RAM that won't work with your Motherboard. Hope this helps...

motherboard
processor
graphics aka video card
sound card
RAM
harddrive
powersupply (usually comes with the case)
operating system (ie: windows xp)
dvd/cd drive (optional, but you probaly definatly want it)
then obviously monitor, keyboard , mouse, speakers, ect.

i would recomend going to tigerdirect.com or newegg.com. both are awsome for building you own computer, and there is another site that is like cyberpower.com or somthing, i think they build your computer after you pick the specific parts for it as well. good luck. btw, you can get a kick *** system for a lot cheaper the way you are doing it.
