Sounds like your hard drive may off crashed. You should have it looked at by a computer tech. You can take it to best buy or some other computer place and they can test it for you and even replace it if needs to be replaced.

Usually a PC that turns off by itself has a power supply or an overheating problem. Open it up and vacuum the dust out of it, particularly around the fans. Make sure the fans are working also. Check the exhaust for the power supply also...a lot of dust can accumulate in there.

Please provide this information, so more computer savvy people will respond
Desktop PC or PC Notebook?
Mac?
CRT or Flat Panel?
Operating system?
Any peripherals attached, like printers, external drives, gaming attachments?
Any other recent problems like video or hard drive noises, fan noises?
Are all cables connected firmly to their ports?
First step:
Unplug computer from power. Remove all cables and connections including monitor, mouse and keyboard. Plug it in again. Turn on computer. If it shuts down then you have memory, motherboard or processor problems. A bad hard drive can do this as well. And a faulty power supply.
If computer does not shut down, then turn off again and add monitor. If system boots up but does not access hard drive, you may have a bad hard drive on your hands or a bad connection.

Check your power connections (if a laptop, make sure the unit works without the battery in place)
Otherwise, I'd think your system is having heat issues.

id say your cpu is overheating or your power buttion is bad. if the power supply was bad you would not be able to turn it on at all.
