My computer would once in a great while turn itself off without warning. Do I have a virus or something? If I do how can I get rid of it completely? Would restoring my computer to the way it was when I first bought it get rid of the virus?

A lot depends on what type of computer. If you are using a laptop, they have power saving settings which will automatically turn off your monitor, hard drive and the whole computer depending on the setting. If you are using Windows, open your "control panel" and under "power options" Check to see what your "power schemes" are set to. Also, you can check the "display" icon and under "screen saver" there is a "power options" button. Check them first before going through all the tests for viruses. If you suspect you have a virus after checking your power settings, I suggest you log onto http://www.techsupportforum.com/. Browse the forums for answers or register and ask for help. It is FREE. If you do that, be as specific as you can be about your system (what you use...Windows 98 or Windows XP or MAC...whatever..also what browser..Internet Explorer or Firefox..whatever and also whether you have antivirus, antispyware and personal firewall installed) and your problem. The more information you provide, the better response you will get. Be smart, don't give out your name, telephone number, or any personal information when corresponding on the forums.

My Computer Turns Itself Off

As all have said above it could be a number of things. However, from the spec of your PC you have a lot of heat being generated, so your fans may not be adequate. I had the same problem with new RAM and other stuff on a PC that ran fine for 2 years as well. It did exactly the same as you for mnths and drove me mad, but I'm not saying yours it the same problem. What I did was take off the side panel, checked everything as advised above, then stuck a big desk fan right next to it to blow cold air in it, before and while it was running. This stopped it happening, untill I took it away, then I got the BIOS click (quietly) to tell me it was getting hot again. I put it back and it was fine. I scanned the whole thing when booted, and the other 2 drives I have, as they all generate heat, then I bought a dual fan for £7 to fit inside to compensate for it all. It has never faulted since! It's worth a try as you have added a few bits that are not standard to the motherboard. Hope this helps.

it could be getting hot , if it has lots of dust inside the fans inside may not be cooling it enough. make sure its in a place were it can get ventilation.
i would run avg free anti virus and spoybot to check if you have a problem before restoring always go from the easiest/least expensive solution to the hardest. if it happens only once in a while its probably heat. it could also be the power supply giving out.

It did it to mine, too. Mine does not even have a virus. It just shuts itself off every 30-40 mins

Don't know.

Probably not

Are you running virus and anti-spy software? Are they up to date and do you run scans?

Yes, but why burn down the barn to get rid of rats?

Is your computer ventilated properly? Does the fan run and expel hot air?

maybe there's nothing wrong...maybe your pc went into sleep mode or standby because you had leave the pc for a short period...you can change the option by going to control panel>power option
