i have a dell inspiron with wireless internet built in..its only use is for parts..i would like to try to connect it to my desk top...any tips?

It may be possible to do it if the desktop machine has a wireless card in it. But my pick would be to get a wireless router; connect the desktop machine to it through a wired connection (the router also connects to your DSL or cable modem) and then the laptop machine can talk to the desktop machine (or to the internet) through the router. A wireless router will cost you about $50, on sale for $40.

no you cannot use the wireless card from a notebook and put it in a desk top--- they have differnt slots and if you are asking if you can splice them togeather no you cannot do that either and if for some random reason you could the internet would be slower than a dieing snail----- purchase a wireless usb adapter or a pci wireless card and a router you can get this all for like 80 bucks look at netgear or linskys

Wireless cards can't talk to each other (usually). They need to go through an access point / wireless router.

If that's NOT what you're asking, then I'll have to request more details.
