Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz 64 Bit 4M L2 Cache

AMD 64 X2 AM2 5600+ 2.8 GHz 64 Bit 2x1MB L2 Cache

Which CPU processor is better on performance (applications & gaming wise)? because they are both around the same price.
Having a hard choice... any input would be great!

The processors are both set, just choose which benchmark you want and compare at the link below, as much as I hate to see it, the Intel beats the AMD on almost all of them......The Athlon 64 X2 6000 is the closest competitor as far as performance is concerend....
If you can spend a couple extra bucks, go for the Athlon 64 FX-70.....

I like AMD. The Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz does have a better processor architecture. Id pick the Intel.

Intel is your Gaming Processor. No way around it.

If you want overall performance without being stuck behind the x86 technology and the bottleneck syndrom, I suggest AMD.

AMD lasts longer, costs less, runs a better inbound and out boud data flow, it's cores are completely regenerated.

However, INTEL DUO is "The Big Boy" at the moment. Intels 4th win in the Processor wars. The score is AMD 6 Intel 4.

Geek, utter BS. Both of these will bottleneck a high end video card. Look up a benchmark sometime. In this case, either will do. The Phenom will probably be a bit faster, but not by much. The Core 2 may be better if you plan on overclocking.

I hear ( though not confirmed ) that Core2 Duo's ( at least some of them ) can be overclocked SAFELY. thats what puts them aside from the AMD chips. If you can overclock it then you could in, theory make your Intel chip faster than the AMD Chip for the same price, since overclocking doesnt require anything other than the CPU itself.

I would reccomend Core 2 Duo personally ...

Hope this helps!

The E6600 may have a slight edge.

But then, the E6600's overclocking headroom is superior. Overclock it and it will blow away the X2 5600+ even if overclocked also.
