Desktops - December 2006

I have two PATA/IDE hard drives installed, and i can't get my SATA hard drive to run just as aslave or even get my computer to recongnize it!! (Doesnt show up in my computer) but shows up as a removable drive on task bar.

The green power light is on and the power switch starts the fans ok. I'm getting a regular beep pattern - one beep every 2 seconds or so. This beep pattern is not listed in the HP support BIOS beep code grid???? Anyone have an idea how to troubleshoot?

well, im going to buy a pc maily for playing Counter strike source, can you tell me which pc would be best?

there both about the same price, the 1st is a little less, i think ill go with the 1st one because counter strike source dosent use dual core so even if i have a duel core it wont be used as good as it could be, and the 1st one has 2gb ram.
NOTE: i dont care about how it looks, and ill be running it in 800x600, low graphics
how much frames per second do u think i will get?

I'm building a new computer, I am going to get a couple of 500gb sata HDDs and i want 2-3gb of RAM, and all i need, is a Motherboard, CPU, and RAM, what is the best most fastest ridiculous crap I can get, i want lto have two CPUs, so i can have over 3ghz, and so what is the fastest RAM, and best CPU and Motherboard that will all will work together, thanks guys

What happend was that my harddrive went bad, so I hooked it up to a different puter to get the data off of it. But I protected (made private) my 'My Documents' folder. So when I go to click on the file it tells me that I do not have permission to view the files.

When installing a case fan, how does one generally know which way to aim the fan? I assumed the labeled part was the "out" or "blowing" direction. Is this generally correct? It feels right on my hand, anyways.

ALSO, should I generally have air blowing in, towards the guts of the computer (to cool it off), or out, as to suck out hot air? The problem is, I can't put a fan on the back AND the front of my case. There's just no spot in the front. However, the side of the case does have 2 spots I could mount fans. Should I put the fans on the side blowing IN, and the ones on the back blowing OUT?

One last question, what's typically a good fan I could mount to keep my video card cool? When I play WoW it tends to overheat and cause reboots.

Recently my pc has started turning off on its own but not completely turning off just the monitor. When i try and play games (the warhammer 40k trilogy) or sometimes just browse the internet my pc screen goes black and says NO INPUT SIGNAL and then POWER SAVING and the monitor will not come back on but the tower is still on, it is humming and the power light is on. The tower does not feel hot and i think the fan is working fine/

We us the comp. for very basic home applications ie: internet surfing, e-mails, we will be starting to get into picture sharing, we do some financal stuff-not online banking (yet), but actually thats about it. We don't game although on the very rare occasion we may have some kids here that may like to do that....very rare however. Also what about Memory.....with what I have just said does it matter 1 vs 2GB of RAM?. How about Processor spedd 2.0GHz vs 2.4 GHz? Also what is Lightscibe when talking about burning CD's and how does this rate vs not having it?

I just received an ok to purchase a new computer for our office. I mainly use the word, excel programs, as well as researching on the internet, email, etc. I currently have a compaq presario 1.2 GHz, 40 GB hard drive, with XP (home version) and it's been working ok. My computer will not allow me to play any sound. it says it does not have a sound device installed...although it is still on the computer. I have done all the toubleshooting tasks, searched the internet and still nothing. It is a Sigmatel audio device. I've tried updating it and rolling back, but nothing.

its a Sony Viao...and the hotkeys don't work either...

What's the best computer to play Sims 2 on? It has to be a whole package of computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. It should be Windows and can be as pricey as $1500. It should not crash much. It should be a desktop, but if any laptop is good too, it's okay.

My friend put a new motherboard and processor in his computer, The
card is a 8X agp and so is his motherboard slot.

He booted it up there was sign of life and posted, but the display didn't come on.

He has checked that it is in properly etc.

Any Ideas

I was told by a couple of people to go to one of those sites that let you customise all the specs the way you want so that it's gonna be cheaper than buying it from Dell. My question is would that be the same. I was thinking that even if you get all the specs you need, those sites might put in parts that are not of good quality. Or, am I being a little too paranoid here? There's no guarantee those parts will be from brand name manufacturers.

By this I mean can you set CPU clock frequency and multiplier in the bios so that the system see's and runs the CPU at a lower speed, or is this likely to cause system errors.

i have Windows XP Pro os, my system is restarting while os loading. the same process is repeat and the system restarting again again, when i start the os in safe mode while loading mup.sys the system is restarted. how can i clear it?

Let say i have a program that comes up at Startup, and it isn't in the All Programs/Startup Area, i already know that its at the Main Startup area, the area at which contains everything that is being used when the computer startups up, which are a lot of programs that aren't on the All Programs Startup.
