What happend was that my harddrive went bad, so I hooked it up to a different puter to get the data off of it. But I protected (made private) my 'My Documents' folder. So when I go to click on the file it tells me that I do not have permission to view the files.

That's odd. It seems like you should have access if you are an admin on the system.
Make sure your username you are using has admin rights.
Log on as admin and set explicit permissions on that directory for your regular username.
As a last resort, reverse the protected status on the directory and try that.

many human beings have already given large solutions i'm rather merely wanting to bolster their case. formatting the not undemanding force to fix the exhibit by means of archives danger-free practices act is finished and utter nonsense. i can't believe they have informed you this. i does no longer deliver the computer with the not undemanding force in it besides for my personal piece on ideas, no longer till the archives develop into encrypted which isn't the default (and it will be). i'm digressing... keep your not undemanding force danger-free, swap it out with a sparkling one (that is amazingly undemanding), and deliver the computer with a sparkling not undemanding force. in the adventure that they want a sparkling not undemanding force then you actually do it for them.
