I'm a single parent with 2 kids and can not afford a computer. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Try craigslist.org for a cheaper used computer or go to pricewatch.com to get a new computer for couple of hundred dollars, just pick what is called a barebones model, no bells and whistles but it will work for you just fine.

i bought everysingle piece of my computer from newegg.com and it came out to a great price. store value would have been at least 2k, i spent 700 on a great quality comp. if i woulda done further research it would have came out even cheaper. if u know anybody that might be able to guide u as to what u need and how to assemble, u can save hundreds, but if u dont ur best bet is dell.com. try calling this place, its fairly cheap. http://www.pricelesscomputer.com/

If its only for informal gaming, then you extremely have a huge selection of judgements. in case you want portability get a pc, in case you want upgrading your specs bypass with a private computer. the superb manufacturers available (IMO) are: HP Apple Toshiba some thing custom outfitted manufacturers to ward off: DELL!!! omg choose i say extra? even although they are low-cost don't be deceived with the help of their cost. all of those i owned died... those low-cost mini notebooks you seen at wal-mart. For good performance you'll choose a minimum of four Gb of Ram and a minimum of 500 GB HD area and an excellent processor which includes AMD phenom,or the intel I sequence (or some thing with a minimum of two.sixty six Gzh)extra cores= extra power. attempt to ward off ones like sempron and athlon Turon (sp) try getting one with a recognition style outfitted in pix card, Nvida or Radeon yet not integrated chip instruments. good success.
