If you are looking for a wicked sick CPU, the new intel core duo extreme is the choice chip. This baby is loaded to the hilt. It is quad core running at 2.66 GHz. It may not be over three, but this chip will outpreform most chips on the market.

I don't know much about motherboards or ram though

swifter CPU for confident, no matter if that is a pc. you may continually improve the CPU to a swifter CPU once you've a private computer, yet in case you get DDR2 RAM, you'd be stuck with DDR2 Ram until eventually you replace the motherboard. DDR2 operating at 800mhz has a bandwidth of 6.4Gbps DDR3 operating at 1333mhz has a bandwidth of 10.66Gbps So the bandwidth massive difference is amazingly important. even although the more recent DDR3 has larger latency numbers, that is basically because the clock cycle used to degree that is shorter. the authentic latency comes out to be kind of the same as DDR2 once you're taking that into consideration. in my opinion, i'd pick a larger-clocked twin center CPU over the Quad center and bypass with DDR3 RAM. it ought to ward off a respectable quantity of money with the help of going with the dual center extremely, and also you received't see a actual performance hit until eventually you're doing severe-end 3D rendering. A 2.8Ghz twin center will carry out about besides as a 2.8ghz quad center for most human beings. back, if you're doing severe end rendering or huge database applications, bypass with the quad center. If not, keep the money and get a twin center.

You want the "Best" or the "Best Price"?

CPU - E6400 for 200$ can get u to the speeds of the most powerfull CPU on earth, the X6800 thus it's worth is actually 1000$. If u want the BEST, then ur looking for the 1,500$ QX6700 Quad-Core CPU. 4 cores is the max u can have if u dont use a server motherboard.
RAM - Depends on the overclock. DDR2-667 or DDR2-800. Their price is similar. The BEST would be above 1100Mhz, but it would be useless unless u want to overclock to 6Ghz.

Motherboard - Are u looking for Crossfire or SLi?

How about a Tyan Thunder K8QS board loaded up with 4 AMD Opteron processors? Pair it with some ridiculous Corsair RAM.

Look at the new Core 2 Duo Extreme edition processors .. but they are quite expensive and availability is bit of a pickle at the moment.

socket 939 mobo with a fx processor, not too pricey for the performance. Make sure has 2000mhz HT.. 2 gigs of xms2 will work.. then get 2 100 gig 7.2k rpm hd's sata2 on a raid 0 array..
