We us the comp. for very basic home applications ie: internet surfing, e-mails, we will be starting to get into picture sharing, we do some financal stuff-not online banking (yet), but actually thats about it. We don't game although on the very rare occasion we may have some kids here that may like to do that....very rare however. Also what about Memory.....with what I have just said does it matter 1 vs 2GB of RAM?. How about Processor spedd 2.0GHz vs 2.4 GHz? Also what is Lightscibe when talking about burning CD's and how does this rate vs not having it?

The consensus is that Intel dual cores outperform AMD's.

HOWEVER, it's like saying a Porche twin turbo is not a good choice because the Ferrari Enzo is faster .... what I mean is that you will never know the difference . They are both extreme performers.

I would choose the AMD for 2 reasons :

- price / performance ratio & upgradability

The AMD offers a lot more for the money & unlike Intel they offer an AM2 socket for the processor which will accept the upcoming Quad-Core CPUs.

Defenitely go for the extra RAM. With all the resident active processes (apps that run in the backgound) that are part of most modern programs (like Office 2007) you will eventually want it anyways.

The latest AMD is the 5600+ running at 2.6Ghz, but even a 4600+ at 2.4Ghz is most affordable ...or anything in between.

I have Lightscribe & what is does is allow you to print monochrome labels on any Lightscibe compatable media. Pretty cool when you want to send someone a personalized CD or DVD.

Just go with Intel Core 2 DUO processor. Period. Intel Core 2 Duo beats the crap outta AMD 64 x 2 processors. Unfortunately, since the time I assembled an AMD 64 bit solo processor 21 months back, the Intel has overtaken the AMD in a big way.

Intel processor is better than AMD, although AMD is cheaper. The AMD's run hot, so if you get one keep the PC in a very cool place. I have seen AMD's burn out faster than Intel. With the RAM, go with the 2GB, it will save you from upgrading and the the PC will run faster. I don't think 2.0 will make a huge difference from the 2.4 as long as you have more RAM.

litescribe burns a picture of sorts on compatible disk tops ... 1 gig of ram is plenty unless ur high-end gaming ... get ddr2 ram ... the processors u will never be able to tell the difference in speed trust me, the speed u would only notice if ur doing heavy processing like converting a whole movie to another format which takes an hour .. then the difference between 2.0 and 2.4g will be about 3 minuets difference in complete time, most of ur felt speed is in the harddrive speed, get a raid settup if u want it to feel even faster.. get the pc or processor with the lowest price ...
.. and 2 gigs of ram will NOT make a pc faster than 1 gig .. in fact it will make it slightly slower but u would have to measure it with a benchmark program .. more than 1 gig of ram is only needed for highend gaming like i said ...

It's better AMD with two gb of memory cuz it makes the computer faster and the processor 2.4 it is faster that the 2.0!! Lightscribe its a way to label your cds/dvds with your burner but it is not important!!

....Define your needs and uses for a computer. Then purchase one that fits that need and budget. Else, like I did recently, buy the best 'puter you can get, because they do get outdated very quickly. Also get much RAM as possible, get largest VIDEO RAM you can. Programs, and files now are getting larger than ever. Easier to open, download, and edit when you have the appropriate hardware installed to handle large files. Floppies are useless anymore.

Have fun shopping for yourself and Merry Christmas !!!!!
