1)the machine does go though a shutdown sequence
2) it is a PC
3)MACHINE HAS NOT BEEN MOVED
4)completely random shutdown
5)yes i have recently installed a new hardrive myself due to old one just not coming on at all and going to a black screen with a flashing cursor..

I need to restore my computer by wiping out everything on my hard drive. When I turn on my computer I can't access anything because it says a system file is corrupted. An HP rep told me to back up my hard drive using another computer. How do I do that?

I'm running are fairly powerfull computer about 2.34GHz 512MB gerforce GS and 2 GIGS of memory. I'm able to get my hands on another screen mouse and keyboard. so my question is would it be possible. And how much i'm i looking at in expenses?

my mother has a dell and when she turns it on it acts like it wants to load it will go thru the steps of showing the dell logo and then the windows xp logo will show its loading but after a few seconds it will go to the screen of boot in safe mode and all the other configs but if you try to boot it in safe mode or any config it goes strait back to the dell logo and then to the windows xp loading logo... what in gods name could be wrong with this thing???

I purchased a DVDRW drive yesterday and installed it myself. I've done this many times before and have had no problems with any of the other computers on which I've installed hardware. When I ran the computer after the first installation, every came up fine. I then installed Nero (after running the DriverCleaner and Registry Checker) and everything seemed to be working ok. Upon restart, however both my CDROM AND DVDRW drives disappeared from recognition. I uninstalled Nero, restarted, and then I went to device manager to investigate the problem and found that it was finding an error with the configuration of both drives in the registry. I have quadruple checked the cables inside the computer and everything is in place. Everything should be running smoothly, but it's not. Care to assist?

i was just looking in the bios of a athlon xp 1.15ghz system before i sold it and just for curiosity i changed the cpu to a 1800+.not realisong that its clock speed is now 1.53ghz
is this stable to run at this speed as if it is i will keep it at this speed and change the price acordingly,as they are getting 450mhz extra,i am tempeted to keep the computer and use it for some overclocking
i didnt realise that amd chips were this overclockable,what would happen if i increased a intel processor by the same amount...would it fry?

I have a Pentium D 820. I recently bought a new CPU fan for it, because of how much quiter it was than my old one. Well, it's near silent but to get to the point, it's cooling sucks. I'm idling at 59C (138F). So, what tempature could damage the processor?

seems to shut down when it feels like it.so i got mad and replaced the mobo,still does it.sometimes it wont fire up,i have to pull the power plug for a min then it fires up..also i put in another fan,still does it.my temps are processor zone 85 zone 2 is 80.this is at idle.I disconnected my other hard drive and cdrom.STILL it shuts down when it wants to.SO NOW WHAT?????
