I have a AMD 3800+ x2 socket 939, and a 430w Antec PSU, and a ATI x850 PE PCI-e video card. What would be a good over clocking board. I was interested in DFI's LanParty, but I doubt my PSU is up for the challenge. Can someone recommend something similar, yet less demanding?

I heard that at a certain point, it becomes a dimensing returns sort of thing...how much RAM should I use to maximize performance (if that idea is true) with a pentium iv 2.66 processor? I already have 1.128 Gig now...the manual says I can't go past 2.0? What happens if i do?

Trying to buy a new, very cheap ($300 range) Dell computer for my dad, but I want to get him a nice fast system that will last and work well (e.g. at least 512MB of RAM). He mostly just visits many websites, images, news articles, sometimes a few videos, email, etc. Will there be a real significant difference between, say, an AMD Sempron or Athlon, or an Intel Celeron or Pentium 4?

Win XP suddenly won't start on my machine. The machine just boots halfway to the starting Windows screen, then reboots again. I backed up my data to a Dual Layer DVD+R. Then I repartioned and formatted my drive.

The files on the backup DVD are valid files, with valid filenames and sizes, but none of them will open. I can copy the files to my hard drive with no errors with the files themselves, but JPEGs won't open in any image viewer and the DOCs won't open in Word, etc.

The Windows reinstall worked successfully, so the drive isn't dead, and it's obviously taking new files ok. (Used about 2 GBs of the 20GB) The thing that confuses me is that I ran some recovery utilities against the drive and they pick up some files with valid names and sizes...but 100% of them are also blank. Usually, you only get some files (whatever you haven't overwritten) when you run a drive utility recover, but the few files you get you can usually open some.

I just don't understand what happened.

My computer has been randomly shutting off since my brother built it. He has had no problems with the other 10 computers he has built. But just recently it has been shutting off constantly. And now won't even come on. Tried new power supply, that didnt help. Tried new case, that didnt help, but everytime he takes it out and puts it on a sheet of cardboard it does come on. It's not a short either. Nothing about the processor overheating either. No viruses. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

I have a computer that just went through a slight move and may have been through a few shakes and minor bumps along the way.

The computer will not power up. I can plug it in and once I switch the power supply to on the motherboard light lights up indicating to me that it is recieving power however the switch does nothing. I have unhooked the switch and tried jump starting the computer by using the two naked wires and a screw driver to see if i could bring it to life but with no success. I have also pulled out the CMOS battery on the motherboard and had no luck after that as well. What should be my next step in diagnosis or what is this indicating?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. The computer is about 2years old excluding the primary hard drive that is probably around 4 years old.

All of the wires seem to be still connected, I have wiggled and made sure they are all pressed in all of the way. No fan or anything comes on. The only thing that lights up is the motherboard

I have a Dilemma. I am getting Boot Disk Error upon boot up. When I went into Recovery console I check to see the contents of the HD and it said 26 files 0 Bites and 120 GB free in C:\Windows. So I deleted the partition and then repartitioned the HD and reinstalled Windows. I was almost done with all my software installation, which took 3 days and now after 2 reboots I am getting boot disk error again. I checked all the cables and they appear to be ok. I have a SATA HD; the motherboard was replaced 1 year ago. When it did boot back up the 2 times after taking things apart and putting them back together it wouldn’t recognize my additional HD and the secondary DVD ROM drive. SO I checked all the cables and connections again and rebooted again and getting the boot disk error and now it wont boot at all. I am thinking that the motherboard controllers are going bad. Can any one give me some more insight on this? I plan on tonight taking a HD from my old stand by server & see if it will boot
