My teachers Mac 9.1 OS crashed yesterday, basicly i recvie the following. I boot up mac, i geta folder switch back and forth with a mac logo question mark. I know its crashed. Now i figure since windows has mutliple boot modes ( cmd prompt, safe mode, etc ) Macontosh should have some correct? Yes i know the computer should be replaced, but their is 7 years of work on their and if i could at least get some files onto a server hosting site such as gigasize it would be nice. So can anyone out their with a decent amount of computer knowledge throw some tutorials out there for me?

try booting with a Mac System CD. Most any mac I have ever worked on of that age can boot and maybe even see the network with just a standard system cd.

Put in System cd and hold down shift I believe.

Good luck

Lesson One
Always back up your files to a cd or dvd or any other format, never never depend on your computer to work 100% all the time, it never will.

Lesson two
go to Macontosh suport web site there you will get all the answers you need, read the manual, if you have it

you could use a floppy disk to do a boot up, or see if you could do a cd bootup and go into cmd not knowing anything about the mac just taking a wild guess here

hope you have luck...
but you have learned a important lesson here! always do a back up of your files
