I have an old Gateway E-3600 whose motherboard is fried. I'd like to use the system's chassis and existing drives, but upgrade the motherboard (and subsequently the processor and RAM, too). However, I'm not sure where to begin looking for specific components that will work inside of this machine.

I currently have a computer with the current specs, 1 GB (2X512MB) DDR 400 RAM, AMD 64 3200 (Socket 939), an ATI X600 (256MB). Unfortunately it is an NEC computer with their motherboard and an ATI chipset.

I want to upgrade to an X2 4200 or better and eventually an Nvidia 8800 GTS. Are there are any barriers to me doing this as it is a computer produced by NEC?

I'm finding my machine simply can't hack it on games like Call of Duty 2 (it only runs smoothly at 800x600 and I have a 19 inch monitor). Please help.

I just bought 16x dvds for faster speedy recordings but it seems i may never be able to record anything on it as its not recognized by the cd/dvd rom. If I try to copy anything on, it says please insert a recordable cd, and if i try to explore the blank dvd it says please insert a cd! Any ideal what could be wrong? I am not fussy to burn dvd but even if i try to make it a data dvd , it does not help. replies are much appriciated.thanks

I have 2 Dell Dimensions 2400 that I am trying to get rid of. The hard drives have been removed but everything else is still in excellent condition. What would something like this be worth if I took it to a pawn shop?

These are the specs:

Processor: Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz processor, 400Mhz FSB (100MHzx4)

Chipset: Intel 845GV chipset
Videocard: Integrated Intel Extreme graphics

Sound: Integrated Soundmax Sound

Memory: 256MB PC-2700 DDR memory (one module)

Networking: Integrated 10/100 Ethernet

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 40GB ATA/100 7200RPM hard drive
CDROM: Hitachi 48X CD-ROM drive
Monitor: 19" Dell brand M992 monitor (max 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, .24 Dot pitch)
Software Setup WindowsXP Home Edition

Obviously there is no hard drive..I just want to get rid of them...

i left winamp running over night. usually fall asleep to it. when i woke up in the morning my moniter had power showed the "self test" screen. my computer was still running though. lost video to the moniter. what would cause this. previouse computer would have no probs with this for over 2 years. i installed a new mobo/cpu and power supply and since then i had to reformat windows a couple times. got the BSOD. just recently reformatted it.

so techs whats it sound like to you? a crappy mobo? processor over heating? ram issues? hd issues?
