As you use your computer, the registry and other programs will clog up your OS.
1. Clear your startup folders. Start > Run > msconfig > Startup. Uncheck everything except say maybe your antivirus?
2. Run defrag once a month. Get a better 3rd party defrag prog is definitely a better choice as it have more functions.
3. Run a registry cleaning provided by some optimization programs like WinAshampoo.
4. Check for viruses and spyware.
5. Try to make your desktop clean.
I guess thats about it. I think of anything new, i will edit it here

Be careful with some of these anecdotes. When you go to that menu, some of these programs need to run, so if you don't know what you are doing, I wouldn't even try to turn off the programs, just deal with the slower boot. I have read about this myself and when I went to that area on my computer, I wasn't sure what some of the programs were, as there is no explaining and some are inscribed so I couldn't even tell from the title what they did or what would happened if turned off. Thank you..
