I just bought 16x dvds for faster speedy recordings but it seems i may never be able to record anything on it as its not recognized by the cd/dvd rom. If I try to copy anything on, it says please insert a recordable cd, and if i try to explore the blank dvd it says please insert a cd! Any ideal what could be wrong? I am not fussy to burn dvd but even if i try to make it a data dvd , it does not help. replies are much appriciated.thanks

I also tried diffent DVD authoring software like Ulead and DB. but it seems there is some thing wrong with the dvd being 16x, because the 8x one goes swiftly.

The problem might be due to the configuration. Do you know if you have it set as a master or slave drive? If you don't know, this could be your problem. Your main harddrive is on the first IDE cable. It must be the master drive. The second connector on the IDE cable is the slave. YOU MUST CONFIGURE THE DVD PLAYER AS THE SLAVE DRIVE.

To configure as the slave drive, you will need to put the jumper bar on the correct pins. There are eight pins, four by two pins at the back to the right of the ribbon cable pins. A jumper block should be on one pair of pins. The correct pins to jumper should be printed on the top of the dvd player.

If you have two IDE ports and one isn't used. Use the second cable and leave as the dvd as the master.

When you do all this, make sure your computer is off and unplugged. When you touch anything inside the computer make sure you first toucht he case to ground out any static electricity. Don't touch anything you don't have to touch. Kind of like "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" .

Your computer will now recognize your dvd burner, happy burning.

Just a thought....is the DVD media that you bought readable by the specific drive that you have? What I mean is, some older drives were designed for either DVD-R, or DVD+R disks. Newer drives will work with both kinds, but older ones may not. Try getting a few of the type DVD's that you don't have now, either + or - , and see if they work. Good luck.

Install Nero 7 premium, this software has all what you need to write cd/dvds.
Your computer is not able to work with UltraDMA mode and that's why your disc look like a blank disc.
