my computer is a very old win 98. the processor detects it but i somehow do not have a D:. Plug and play didn't really help either. Any idea?

Make sure your jumper settings are correct before you connect it, then check bios

Dear just open the BIOS by pressing Delete key or F2 key (key is subject to Mother Boar Model) In the BIOS scree check weather it is detected or it is Master or slave, if it is not detected remove the jumper & again check, if again fails change the Data cable..

Too little information. PC/Mac, OS?, internal, external, manufacturer and model # of PC/CD ROM drive?

Kick IT to CompUSA or seriously,now... the BIOS should detect it or else , you did cabling/'straping' wrong ,,,, need mor INFO' like how many devices,,, SCSI or IDE or [even] MAC or PC or Laptop or PC-clone?????

Unplug the CD.
Restart the machine.
Plug in the CD.
Plug-and-Play should do the rest if you are lucky.
