I am quite familiar with both of these processors and the P4 is by far better. In general Intel is much more stable and compatible than AMD. After the Core 2 Duo AMD has pretty much become hopeless.
Pentium 4 is also very good for overclocking, my brother overclocked his P4 3.2ghz to 4.0ghz by using a liquid cooler without much of a distance in the temperature.

AMD ask any computer geek that is worth their pocket protector what they have in thir machine and it is usually AMD
