Please follow this link & look under the "Memory" category. It i from the manufacturer & will explain exactly what you need :

If you are purchasing this memory for your husband I suggest printing it & taking it with you to a reliable vendor.

Make sure the memory you purchase has at least a 5 year warranty ( some even have lifetime).

Read your mother board USERS GUIDE. Nothing about your system, that you wrote, matters. ONLY THE MOTHERBOARD!

For the Internet, you need the motherboard manufacturer, model and date. Other wise you can go to Compaq web site,
look up the computer model, read the specifications and that you tell you the RAM type, otherwise send them an e-mail!

.
This TOOL will tell you EXACTLY what you want
to purchase for your unique system:

The use of the tool is free, because they hope you will buy from them.
CRUCIAL.com is well known and reliable seller.
DO NOT purchase "cheap" ram ever
(cheap lasts a short time and then cr@ps out).
