Im getting a laptop for xmas but don't know which one to get. I know Macs are more expensive, but I was thinking of getting one on the refurbished part of the apple site (they are apple certified). These ones cost less. Which one is better for my needs: creative student. Computer used for IM, email, hw, photos/movies.

One of the capacitors on my motherboard has gone bad. It's a 6.3V, 2200uf cap. I've got a few 6.3V, 3300uf capacitors laying around the house, can I use one of these in it's place, or am I running the risk of damaging my motherboard by doing so?

I built it about 1 and half yrs ago...I normally leave my computer on all the time, but this time when came home and found out that my PC was already turned off. The problem is that it will not come back on. Normally, I would push the soft button in front to get it started, but this time it wont do it...no lights and no sound..completely dead... I even changed my power supply ...same problem...and didn't do anything different...there is no bad smell because I though may be something blewup...it can't be power supply since I have chnged it and then tried it at different outlets...please help...

It sounds fine when I log off or turn it off, but on start up it sounds warped and static-y. Everything else seems to be working fine on my Dell Dimension B110.

If my PC (compaq d530 SFF) goes to standby automatically it does not restart when I hit the keyboard or move the mouse. I am forced to power cycle the PC to get it started. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be and what can be done? Thanks

ok well im gonna build a computer, and im having problems finding the right ps. i just want a sorted list of what certain wattages are rated at, site links are ok too.

just something like:

100-300 watts - ideal for pentium3
300-400 - for p4 or pd, and a decent vid card

something easy for me to understand

give both amd and intel processors, INCLUDE CORE2DUO!
and i will probably have a decent vid card, only one or two hdd's...
i will add more if needed

I have a Azus socket A7v motherboard with the most current bios. I have installed a 3rd Harddrive, a 300 gb WD. The bios recognizes it as a 300gb, but my Windows XP only sees it as 137 gb. What are steps to get XP to recognize the entire drive? I have not formatted it yet.
